What will I be doing?

This role is all about people; engaging with our visitors to help them get the most from their visit. This will include:

  • Welcoming visitors and orientating them across the Abbey Headland
  • Inspiring our visitors to interact with the hidden archaeological layers on site with Whitby new smart devices
  • Leading short guided tours of the site and answering visitors’ questions on all aspects of the history of the site
  • Encouraging families to find new ways to explore and interact with Whitby Abbey
  • Promoting nearby English Heritage sites, the events program and English Heritage Trust
  • Sharing information to help other team members discover more about the history of the site and the area
  • Helping to provide a safe environment for all visitors
  • Additional opportunities will be available to support the Abbey key events

Times required:

We are looking for volunteers to cover 11am-3pm. During the main season sessions will be available daily, then opening days vary across the remainder of the year. Ideally, we would like you to volunteer for one session per week, but please do talk to us about your availability.
